Howard Kennedy
Howard’s Bio Howard has written rhyming poetry since he was about five. His childhood was spent in Far North Queensland His poetry, for most of his life, was deeply personal and rarely shared until he moved to South-East Queensland. He first shared some of his poems in the Ipswich Poetry Feast before moving to Bribie Island. From there he published his first children’s book, “Mr Leaf’s Dream” and found poetry and writing groups including Bribie Island Poets, North Pine Bush Poets, Poets by the Bay, and Queensland Poetry Writers Group. While his writing held its own, he soon discovered that, he could also recite and in 2022 was crowned the NPBP Poet of the Year. He usually writes as W.H. Kennedy and performs as Howard Kennedy. 2024 his poem was longlisted in the Cloncurry Poetry Prize. 2024 his performances at Boondooma Homestead elevated him from the novice category. 2025 he received commendations for his poem “We’ll Know This Country Yet” 2025 his poetry was presented at Poetry in Action at Bribie Island Community Art Centre.
