Gerry Mannion
Originally from Galway, Ireland. Been in Australia since 1991, more than half my life. It took me over 50 years to realise I couldn’t sing or dance or play an instrument so I thought I’d give Bush Poetry a go. First started performing around 4 years ago. Love Traditional Australian Bush poetry but also perform modern and original poems and tend towards humorous rather than serious, although a serious poem told well is a great poem. Have also been known to perform a few Irish, American and Canadian poems given the right audience, and maybe even spin a Yarn or two. I am the 2025 Australian Yarn Spinning Champion having won that accolade at the”ABPANational Bush Poetry Championships” in Bathurst. My proudest achievement to date is winning the “Bush Poetry Overall Champion” Prize at the 2024 Ekka.
