You Can’t Keep Secrets

© John”The Joker” Pampling

Note- Bex was a brand name of aspirinin the 1950’s and 60’s, available in both powder and tablet form.

A boy named Tom comes home from school says,“Mum how old are you?”
“A woman never tells her age,It’s not the thing to do.”
“But mom the other kids all know how old their parents be.
Why Billy Smith says that his mom, is only thirty-three.

And Jimmy Jones from down the street, says his mum’s forty-four.
And Mary May the other day, said hers was two years more.”
He ate his meal, then off to bed to dream away the night.
He lay in bed in blissful sleep, until the morning light.

And then at eight was out the gate and heading off to school.
He’d learn his lessons really good, ‘cause he was not a fool.
And then at lunch time they would play and share a yarn or two.
About their family at home and all the things they do.

And then young Tom said,“How can I, find out how old mum is?”
And Mary said,“That’s easy mate. Don’t get into a tiz.
It’s on her driver’s license Tom.That’s if she does have one.
Her date of birth is printed there, and you can do the sum.”

So, home he went said,“What’s for tea?”His mom said,”Rice and chook.”
He knew just where she kept her bag and so he had a look.
Then out he came and to his mom said,“Mum you’re forty-four.”
His mum turned ‘round in great surprise, her jaw near hit the floor.

“You’re right you know but tell me dear. How did you work it out?”
“Well Mum it’s on your license there, it is without a doubt.
And that’s not all, I know just why you’re always taking Bex.
And why it was that dad took off.You scored an F for sex.”
